Total Weight Loss Formula Ingredient Spotlight: Green Coffee Bean

One thing there is a lot of in the weight loss industry is a tendency to make outrageous claims by one product or another touting the wondrous effects of the product they are trying to sell. Some of the claims are based in reality, some in folklore, and others are divined straight out of thin air. I wonder why they do that?...

Being a holistic physician known for cutting out the BS, I am partial to actual scientific evidence and provable results. That doesn't necessarily mean that I completely shun everything that hasn't been proven by research because there are limits to that approach as well. Some things just haven't been studied yet and just because there is a lack of scientific evidence at the moment doesn't invalidate them. But when a patient comes to me and is looking for help, I like to know that I am giving them the best help that I can.

That is why I am doing a series of ingredient spotlights on the contents of my herbal weight loss formula, Total Weight Loss Formula, and showing you that it isn't just another wish in a bottle.

As you may have guessed today we are looking at Green Coffee Bean and its amazingly remarkable variety of effects that it has on the body for weight loss. I have to say that I was pretty surprised when I was doing my research on how many ways this little bean can help you shed fat and improve your health. I am thoroughly impressed and here is what I found:

Green Coffee Bean contains two main compounds that experts believe account for its anti-fat effects: Chlorogenic Acid and Caffeine. Formerly most believed that it was the caffeine in green coffee bean that accounted for the effects, as caffeine has been well-studied and proven to help in the weight loss battle. But one study found that "It appears to reduce the influence of genes that promote fat accumulation, not just stimulate thermogenesis with the caffeine" with decaffeinated green coffee bean exctract concentrations as low as .3%. So there is more to the story than just the stimulant.

Another study showed that male overweight mice that were given green coffee bean extract for 14 days saw a reduction of both body fat and dangerous visceral fat. Not only that, but a reduction in hepatic and serum triglycerides levels were also observed. That means that on top of reducing accumulated fat, green coffee bean helps reduce liver and blood levels of triglycerides.

Another 14 week mouse study was used to examine the effects of green coffee bean on a wider variety of parameters and showed improved metabolic measures on fasting glucose, insulin resistance, liver triglycerides, serum leptin, and urinary catecholamines. It also showed reduced weight gain, decreased adiposity, lower inflammatory infiltrate in adipose tissue and protection against liver protection. That is a pretty impressive list of improved biomarkers for one supplement not named ginseng.

And while mice are the standard in studies before moving on to humans, you may be thinking "that is great that those fat mice lost so much weight but how would green coffee bean affect me?".

Lucky for you a 22-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (the gold standard medical study) in overweight adult humans taking green coffee bean extract showed a significant reduction in body weight, body mass index, and body fat percentage with no significant changes to diet over the course of the study at the end. Pretty remarkable.

Another 8 week randomised clinical trial studied 64 women between the ages of 20 and 45 who were split into two groups. Both groups were on a calorie restricted diet but one group was supplemented with green coffee bean extract. At the end of the study both groups had experienced reduction in body weight, body mass, fat mass and waist-to-hip circumference ratio, but the decrease was higher in the group taking the green coffee bean extract. Not only that, but the extract group saw marked improvement in serum total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, leptin, and plasma free fatty acids.

With all of this evidence you can clearly see that green coffee bean extract is more than just some Dr. Oz fluff product and really can help you lose weight and improve your health. That is why I put it in my Total Weight Loss Formula. The effects of this tiny green wonder in conjunction with the other ingredients will lend you a significant hand in reaching your goals of reduced fat and improved health.
